writer/director

NOELANI MEI LEE

Noelani Mei Lee is an award-winning screenwriter and director from Austin, Texas. Her overwhelming passion for storytelling and filmmaking emerged at a young age when her elementary school's G/T program put a camcorder in her hands and taught her how to edit captured footage. After spending her teen years pouring hard work and dedication into a series of short films, she directed her first feature, "Sleight," in 2012 at age 19.

The next step in Noelani's film career was a cross-country move to Los Angeles, California. There, she worked as an IATSE 871 script supervisor for nearly a decade on movies such as "Dashing in December" and "Sharknado 3," and television series including "American Born Chinese," and "The Dropout." This firsthand experience working alongside other industry professionals allowed her to expand her knowledge and hone her creative skills, opening the door to numerous valuable partnerships.

Mental health advocacy has always been at the forefront of Noelani's artistic visions. Her aspirations include crafting enthralling, visceral stories and heightening her audience's awareness of the reality of living with disabilities and invisible diseases.

director of photography

MATTHEW HARDESTY

Matthew Hardesty, born in Houston, Texas, has been described as having a ‘very special talent for taking figurative demons and making them real and terrifying’. He started his career in independent film in Austin at age 18. His education at the Austin School of Film showed him the importance of experimental cinema, and of not viewing the world through the obvious perspective, allowing him to provide audiences with fresh and unique experiences. He partnered with director Noelani Mei Lee, and was the cinematographer for their first feature, "Sleight," at 21 years old.

After moving to Los Angeles, Matthew continued to push boundaries on projects that the press have penned as ‘all orgiastic mayhem’ with ‘stunning visuals’. Joining the International Cinematographers Guild and working as a 1st AC for over 13 years has led to his participation in such projects as “Supercell”, “The Rookie”, and “Sightless”.

While Matthew’s cinematography can be visceral and intense, he agrees with the following sentiments about his work: "You can’t work out your problems unless you bring them out into the light," and that the "blood and violence of (the piece) definitely recall the conflict inherent in relationships of any kind, or at least the ones that are passionate enough to care about."

AUDIENCE REVIEWS

"This movie is a must-see! I highly recommend watching this if you are looking for a movie that captures the essence of human struggles and what it takes to overcome them. The acting in this movie felt very raw and real, and it was, hands-down, one of the best indie films that I have ever seen. Major kudos to the crew, the writers, and the director of this movie! Looking forward to seeing more from these folks!"

"Reminded me of something Lynch would make. Weird, but good weird, like something you'd watch if you want to think about bigger ideas than boy meets girl. Movies like this are proof that if you are driven and have a good idea, you can craft something that is both crowd pleasing and outside of the box. Expect a follow up from the same filmmakers to be a cult classic."
